Banner exchange is a free method of advertising where you trade advertising space with other websites. Here's how it works. You submit your banner to a banner exchange network by visiting one of the many banner exchange websites. You agree to display advertisements for other websites on your website, and your advertisement will in turn be displayed on other peoples websites. The more visitors you have to your website, the more times your advertisement banner will appear on other peoples websites. Some banner exchanges offer targeted advertising. This allows you to choose what category of websites your ad will appear on.

Conventional means of advertising can also be used to promote your website. Small ads in newspapers and magazines, or even flyers posted on kiosks around town can help draw traffic to your website. Remember that targeted ads always work better, so try to place your ads in places that will be more likely to attract the kind of visitors you want. For example, if your website offers products related to health or fitness, you could post a flyer at health clubs in your area.
Word-of-mouth is a great way to get free traffic to your site. Word-of-mouth starts slowly, and it can take a long time to develop a decent amount of traffic from word-of-mouth, but the results can very beneficial.
